| THE HISTORY OF THE NEW STREETLY YOUTH ORCHESTRA |
|
Streetly Youth Orchestra is a non-profit making association of young musicians gathered together for the purpose of giving them opportunity to develop their orchestral talents. It is an ever growing orchestra which has a wide repertoire of music, from classical works to light/popular music. The Orchestra was founded in 1991 by Streetly sisters Ann Kirby and Lyn Procter whose hard work and dedication transformed their dream of giving young musicians a chance to develop their musical talents into the orchestra you see today. Lyn and Ann remained the Musical Directors of the orchestra until December 1997 when they stood down in order to pursue other interests. The running of the orchestra was handed over to a management committee headed by Stuarrt Jones, and re-named The New Streetly Youth Orchestra. The orchestra plays under the guidance of its musical director, Richard Commander who is responsible for the musical side of the orchestra. In March
1998 it was decided that the orchestra would form a constitution in order
to formalise the management of the orchestra, and enable it to achieve
its long to term goal of becoming a registered charity.
