Background information

The New Streetly Youth Orchestra is a non-profit making association of young musicians who gather together to develop their performance skills and confidence. Based in Sutton Coldfield, the orchestra offers weekly rehearsals under the guidance of a team of accomplished conductors and tutors who help inspire the next generation of musicians.

The orchestra plays a wide repertoire that includes music from screen, stage and popular classics. It originated from an ensemble founded in 1991 by two Streetly music teachers who wanted to give young musicians a chance to develop their musical talents. They remained the Musical Directors of the orchestra until December 1997 when they stood down in order to pursue other interests. The running of the orchestra was handed over to a management committee, currently chaired by Ian Myatt, and re-named The New Streetly Youth Orchestra.

Alongside the two formal concerts hosted each year (Christmas and Summer), the orchestra regularly performs at a number of community events and is a keen to support local charities. Please contact us if you’d like to partner with us in any activity.

In April 2011 the orchestra founded the Sutton Coldfield Arts Forum (Made in Sutton) which it led for three years. In April 2014 leadership of the forum was handed over to Highbury Theatre Centre.

The orchestra takes pride in offering an "open door" policy with no audition required to join.
